Market Applications – FAQs

When is the next Made on the Left market?

Please see out Next Market Applications page for upcoming market events.

Why are your craft fair / markets juried?

Made on the Left focuses on providing a market for unique handmade and designer items. We are looking for items that are high quality, unique, quirky and appealing. Each event is juried to ensure that the designers that we showcase have products that fit in with our guidelines and are designed and made by the artist in Western Australia.

We also assess the applications to ensure that there is not an over-supply of similar items at any one market. If you meet our handmade and locally produced guidelines and are not selected for a particular market, we encourage you to apply again for any future markets as we will be rotating selected stallholders to keep the markets interesting for visitors.

Photos

We cannot stress enough the importance of including good photographs with your applications. The photographs help us ensure that we provide a market that supports talent and items “Made on the Left” side of Australia. Plus, with your permission we want to use the photos in our media campaign and hopefully get them in the news. Check out our application tips on our blog here:  http://madeontheleft.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/made-on-left-market-application-tips.html

So can I sell vintage or imported goods at your designer market?

You may not sell vintage products, second-hand products or imported goods at Made on the Left markets. Our aim is to focus on local Western Australian design. This means that we will only accept designers who live and make in Western Australia.

I had a stall at your last craft fair, does this mean I can get one this time too?

Each event is juried independently of the last and your acceptance will depend on the quality of the application received, as well as whether many applications for similar goods are received (e.g. jewellery). Please keep in mind that our aim is to represent a variety of designers from all different fields, and due to limited space we can only showcase a small variety of designers.

Will the same people always be at your market?

Not at all, we want to showcase as much variety as possible so while you may find some of the same designers, there will always be new and emerging designers on show.

When will I find out if I am accepted?

We will go through applications after the closing date and let you know in the following week or two so keep an eye on your emails! Please add applications@madeontheleft.com and admin@madeontheleft.com to your address book to help prevent our emails being marked as spam.

How many vendors will there be?

This depends on the venue.

SELECTED STALLHOLDER INFORMATION

When will I get information about my stall setup?

Generally we send an information pack through 1-2 weeks prior to the market with all the information you need including parking, setup times, stall location and confirmation of any special requirements you provided us in your initial application form.

How big is my stall? What can I bring?

Stall size will differ at each event/location. Generally it is the size of a standard 1.8m trestle table but we sometimes have marquees for some markets which are 3m x 3m. You will need to supply your own tables, chairs, display items, etc. You can fit the space out with clothing racks, small tables, screens and partitions or whatever suits your display needs, as long as they fit into this space. Please do not extend beyond your allocated area or obstruct pathways, and be considerate of your stall neighbours and safety concerns.

My friend is a stallholder too, can we be next to each other?

To ensure the best possible layout, the market layout plan will be completed at the discretion of the Made on the Left committee and advised to you prior to the market date. You are welcome to make a request – however this does not mean we will automatically approve it.

What is the stall fee?

This depends on the venue. Please check the market application for stall fees.

I have more questions – can you help me?

Of course! Please contact admin@madeontheleft.com with any inquiries that you may have.

Thank you for supporting Western Australian creative talent!
